Your holiday in Maranza is characterized by natural experiences in a high alpine landscape. High above the Val d’Isarco, on a sun-drenched alpine terrace, the South Tyrolean mountain resort is located at an altitude of around 1,400 meters. With a height of 2,510 meters, Mount Gitschberg towers above the village. It is the most visible landmark of the village – characterized by its particular shape. Around 900 people live in Maranza. With more than 280 sunny days a year, the village is one of the sunniest towns in South Tyrol. In the quiet community plenty of relaxation is guaranteed – far from daily stress and traffic noise. Crystal clear mountain streams ripple through the meadows, and in the summer the farmers collect the hay on the pastures.

Just off of the centre of Maranza, the Hotel Pfeiferhof is located on a sunny slope. A fantastic panoramic view of the high plateau is visible from the elevated position. The centre of the South Tyrolean mountain village can be reached in only three minutes. In the centre you will find grocery stores, a shop with sports equipment, a bakery and small gift shops. Restaurants, cafes, pizzerias and a bank are also available. In addition, you have the opportunity to pay a visit to the wood sculpture studio. The largest building in the village and the centre of religious life in Maranza is the Church of the 3 Holy Virgins. The church was rebuilt in 1770 in Baroque style, and rests on the foundations of an earlier Gothic building.

The territory of Maranza is an ancient settlement area. Pre-Christian settlement traces have been found behind the farm Gasslerhof. At the old footpath to Maranza there is the so-called “Alte Kuchl”, a rock niche, where shards of pre-Christian centuries were discovered. The granite lined trail from Maranza to Rio di Pusteria is a relic from the early days. A memorial called “Jungfrauenrast ” recalls a rest of the Three Virgins Aubet, and Cubet. An ancient trade route once led through the Pusteria Valley up to Swabia, and Maranza was connected via a driveway with this historic trade route.

Not only on hot summer days, the water park “Alpinpool” in Maranza invites you to a refreshing dip. The water park offers a family-friendly ambiance with a baby pool, a waterslide and a hot tub. It furthermore includes a spacious sauna area, from where you can enjoy a truly breathtaking panoramic view of the Dolomites. Several more crystal clear bathing waters await you right in the vicinity of the South Tyrolean mountain village. The public swimming pool in the village of Velturno, the natural swimming pond in Luson and the idyllic Lake Varna are popular bathing waters in the region. In addition, the outdoor pool in Chiusa and the warm lakes of Monticolo promise plenty of refreshing moments.

A cultural tour in the nearby area leads you first of all to the Gothic parish church located in the heart of the village – you may visit it during your vacation at Mount Gitschberg. The Chiusa di Rio Pusteria is located in the village of Rio di Pusteria, which is situated in the valley below Maranza. The Chiusa di Rio Pusteria was built as a customs station and later served as a hunting lodge. Guided tours of the old walls are held regularly in the summer. In the cities of Brunico, Bressanone and Vipiteno, in the summer months regular weekly markets take place, where you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city.

Your mountain bike holiday will lead you over gentle hills, along the river valleys, across idyllic mountain pastures and on mighty mountains. Our routes cover all levels of difficulty: for beginners, families, and for ambitious athletes. Start your bike holiday in South Tyrol with the two round trips that start and end in Maranza. One takes about an hour and leads you to the alpine hut Moserhütte (9 km) at almost 2,000 m of altitude; the other one takes you along the Valles Valley to Valles and Spinga (approx. three hours / 28 km).

A real must – although quite challenging – is the tour from Maranza to Mount Gitschberg. The steep climb will take you to the highest point at 2,109 m, where you will be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view; afterwards, you may enjoy a thrilling downhill ride. If you extend your bike holiday in South Tyrol to the neighbouring regions, you will find beautiful destinations in the Isarco Valley, on the Alpe di Rodengo, and in the Altafossa Valley. Take a leisurely ride from Maranza to the alpine hut Wieserhütte (about 15 km), which you can combine with a hiking tour to the Campolago Lakes and the Campolago Peak.
